Your Guide to Halloween Festivities in Salt Lake City

Discover why Utahns consider autumn the most wonderful time of year and immerse yourself in a city that embraces spooky season like no other.

October 1, 2025

Salt Lake City's devotion to Halloween is legendary. As autumn turns the Wasatch Mountains gold and crimson, the city embraces spooky season with an enthusiasm that rivals any major holiday. From elaborate home displays to theatrical haunts, Utahns don't just celebrate Halloween; they turn it into an art form. And there's no better home base for the season than The Grand America Hotel, set in the heart of downtown and within easy reach of the city's finest fall festivities.

Celebrate at The Grand America

Begin your spooky season celebration without ever leaving the hotel. Our annual Witches Tea returns to the Lobby Lounge through November 1, offering a bewitching twist on our renowned afternoon tea. Arrive in your most enchanting costume to enjoy house-made pastries, savory tea sandwiches, gourmet teas, and treats with a distinctly wicked flair. Reservations are required, so plan ahead, especially for Halloween weekend.

As evening falls, Ghost of Gibson transforms Gibson Lounge into an atmospheric escape where vintage glamour meets eerie elegance. The seasonal cocktail list leans into autumn's darker notes, from the Pumpkin Spice Sazerac, made with Rittenhouse Rye, cognac, and a touch of absinthe, to the Black Widow, which pairs blackberry hibiscus and tequila with a hint of ancho chile. No reservations are needed, and walk-ins are welcome nightly through mid-November.

This year, the celebration grows larger than life. During the week of October 26, two Atlantic Giant pumpkins, hand-carved by artist Alan Silva, will be on display at the hotel to honor The Grand America's 25th anniversary. They're here for one week only, so plan your visit accordingly.

Downtown Thrills

A short stroll or TRAX ride from the hotel, guided ghost walks from US Ghost Adventures set out from the Gallivan Center after dark. Lantern-carrying guides blend local history with chilling storytelling as you pass landmarks like the Capitol Theatre, the Federal Courthouse, and the infamous Whiskey Street.

For an elevated night out, the third annual Thrillers Ball comes to the historic Commercial Club downtown on Saturday, October 24. This year's theme, Icons of the Night, reimagines horror's most recognizable figures through couture and cinematic glamour, with immersive installations, luxury lounges, and dancing. The event is 21 and over.

Cultural Celebrations

Odyssey Dance Theatre's Thriller, a Utah Halloween tradition for decades, returns to The Grand Theatre from October 9 through 24. Mummies, zombies, and skeletons take the stage in a spirited mix of dance, comedy, and seasonal fright. The show is recommended for ages 8 and up, and performances often sell out before Halloween, so book early.

Prefer your drama with a dash of swordplay? Utah Opera opens its season with Héctor Armienta's Zorro at the Capitol Theatre, October 10 through 18. It's a lavish production filled with flamenco, Mexican musical influences, and the legendary masked hero. Fittingly, the theater itself is a stop on many local ghost tours.

Family-Friendly Adventures

Salt Lake's family offerings extend far beyond trick-or-treating. Wheeler Historic Farm's Pumpkin Days returns throughout October with a hay maze, play area, wagon or cow train rides, and a pumpkin patch, all in a charming historic setting that keeps the fun more festive than frightening.

In West Jordan, WitchFest at Gardner Village fills the historic village with whimsical witch displays, a scavenger hunt, boutique shopping, and seasonal dining through October 31. A local tradition since 2000, it delights families and witch enthusiasts of every age.
